Adventure Australia

A Four Day Trip in Cairns, Australia

G'day mate!

While I was living in Guam I was able to take a five hour flight to Cairns, Australia. Cairns is a small place in the far north of Queensland, Australia. Sadly we only adventured to Cairns for the weekend and didn't have time for all the other amazing parts of Australia but thats ok because that gives us a good reason to go back! I stuffed all four days in this one post, so grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and get comfortable! Before we start this journey through Cairns I have to let you know the pictures are not the best quality. My Canon camera was not working at the time so I had to use my underwater Olympus camera which isn't the best as you'll see below.

The view from our hotel was spectacular since we could see both the water and mountains. I highly recommend if you visit Cairns you should stay on the Esplanade (The boardwalk next to the water). There is always something going on and its very relaxing.
The Lagoon is the most popular spot in Cairns.  Family, friends, strangers and travelers gather together in this one area to listen to live music, enjoy gelato, lay in the grass, or swim in the lagoon. I could of spent my whole vacation in this one spot, meeting people from all over the world while watching the sun go down over the bay.

One of our top things to do while we were in Cairns was to visit the Cairns Tropical Zoo. We couldn't go to Austraila with out finding a Koala bear or Kangaroo! I was so excited to see these adorable animals for the first time. I wanted to take the cute Koala home with me but I know he wouldn't like to be away from his eucalyptus.

The kangaroos were fun to hang out with at the zoo. There is a huge fenced in area for them so you can walk around to say hi or feed them.

The lemurs were my favorite! They have tiny little hands with fingernails! If only I could work at the zoo, I would be excited to go to work everyday! It was time to get back on the bus and head back to the hotel. We decided when we got back we would explore the town and this is what we found!

Holy Batman!! There were bats everywhere!! They covered at least two blocks of trees. We tried to avoid walking underneath them since the sidewalk was covered in bat poo. Gross! Before we knew it the day was over and it was time for bed. It was hard to sleep since I knew I was going on an adventure tomorrow!

The next day my friend and I split up to go on our own adventures through Cairns. I was so excited to see all of Cairns, but since I was on a budget I had to choose wisely where to go. I wanted to explore into the deep rainforest, climb the red rock, swim with the fish in the Great Barrier Reef or go find my own trail to see the wonders of Australia. So I did.

I decided to hop on a train to see the amazing Kuranda Rainforest. I felt like I was in the 1940's as an explorer on my way to see the amazing scenic views in the old fashioned train. The hour long trip into the rainforest and up the mountain was breathtaking, I couldn't stop looking out my window. I meet another traveler who I sat next to and talked about how amazing traveling can be. She was hoping on a helicopter after the train ride, I was a little jealous.

I could of staid on the train looking out the window all day but there was a town to venture into. The Kuranda Village was fun and full of tourists from every different country. While going through the small town I made a few friends. They were very hungry but had plenty of offerings from people!

I walked around the village for an hour and started getting hungry so I stopped at a place that seemed good to me! This lovely lady was very busy serving delicious food!

After eating the delicious bratwurst I had to head back in time to catch my ride back down the mountain. The skyrail was amazing and it was a whole new way to see the Kuranda rainforest.

It was so high up but you can see all of Cairns and the beautiful Kuranda Rainforest.
My adventure was over  for the day and it was time to get back to the hotel. Before the day was over I was able to capture the beautiful view from the hotel.

On my last day in Australia I decided to venture out to an island called Fritzroy. It was a 45 minute boat ride from Cairns and the whole time you see a never ending landscape of mountains by the water. It was so beautiful, I wanted to get off the boat and go walk around. I probably wouldn't survive with all the deadly things Australia have hiding in the rain forests. At least I could envision in my head exploring the unknown and finding something new. I only wish all of you could of seen what I saw because it makes you forget everything and opens your mind to how beautiful the world can be.
P.S my landscape pictures are not the best but I try.

We all got off the boat and stepped onto an exotic island full of trails and beautiful clear water surrounding us. What I didn't know was that their where stingers in the water aka jellyfish! So I walked on a small trail and found a spot on the beach that was calling my name.

For the first time I relaxed, I wasn't thinking about things back home or problems as I usually do. I cleared my mind and enjoyed my time on the beach in Australia.
I hope you enjoyed my four day journey of Cairns Australia. Comment below if you have any questions or need tips on visiting Cairns.
